Computer Networking & Security II

Computer Networking & Security I Prerequisites: Keyboarding, Computer Applications, Algebra I, and English with a grade of C and above are required. Strong reading skills and good attendance will be necessary. This course emphasizes the IT fundamentals that students need to walk into an entry level IT job. By the end of the year, students have the opportunity to obtain 4 different industry certifications. Students will start by taking the Tech+ CertMaster Learn course. They will learn a broad understanding of foundational IT concepts and skills. They learn about basic IT terminology, hardware components, software applications, and network functions. The course covers essential topics such as setting up and troubleshooting devices, managing data and storage, and understanding cybersecurity best practices. Students will take the CompTIA Competency in Technology Fundamentals exam and also be encouraged to take the CompTIA Tech+ certification. Students will then begin the CompTIA A+ Core 1 and Core 2 CertMaster Learn curriculum. This course provides students with the foundational skills needed for entry-level IT support roles. Students learn to troubleshoot and solve issues with hardware, software, and operating systems for desktops, laptops, and mobile devices. The course emphasizes hands-on problemsolving and customer service, equipping students to succeed in IT support and help desk roles. Students will take the Competency in IT Software and Systems Support and the Competency in IT Hardware and Network Support lab exams and also be encouraged to take the CompTIA A+ certification Computer Networking & Security II Prerequisites: Computer Networking & Security I with a minimum of C- and instructor approval.This course emphasizes networking and cybersecurity that students need to walk into an IT specialist job. By the end of the year, students have the opportunity to obtain 4 different industry certifications. Students will begin learning the Network+ CertMaster Learn course curriculum.This course equips students with foundational knowledge and skills in networking. They learn to design, configure, manage, and troubleshoot wired and wireless networks, including the setup of essential network hardware and software. Additionally, students gain a solid understanding of IP addressing, routing, network topologies, and protocols like TCP/IP. This preparation ensures they are ready to support and manage networks in various IT environments. Students will take the CompTIA Competency in Networking and also be encouraged to test for the CompTIA’s Network+ certification exam.In semester 2, students will begin studying the CompTIA Security+ CertMaster Learn course curriculum. This course provides students with the skills and knowledge to secure networks, systems, and data against threats and vulnerabilities. Students learn about core security concepts, including risk management, cryptography, access control, and network security. They gain hands-on experience in identifying and diminishing security threats, implementing secure protocols, and managing incidents. Students will take the CompTIA Competency in Security and be encouraged to test for CompTIA’s Security+ certification exam
